James List

Faith in Action

May 20, 2026

James 2:18b-26

James reminds us that real faith is never silent or still. It shows up in the way we live, the choices we make, and the courage we display when God asks us to trust Him beyond what we can see. Abraham and Rahab stand as powerful examples—ordinary people whose faith came alive through obedience. When our actions align with our belief, our faith becomes complete, vibrant, and unmistakably alive.  What do my recent choices reveal about the strength and direction of my faith?  Where is God inviting me to trust Him with action instead of hesitation?

Accountable Speech

May 27, 2026

James 3:1-6

James reminds us that the tongue may be small, but its impact is enormous. In James 3:1–6, we’re confronted with the sobering truth that our words reveal the direction of our hearts, shape the course of our lives, and carry eternal accountability. Whether we build up or burn down often begins with a single sentence. This week, we’ll explore how God calls us to steward our speech with wisdom, discipline, and grace — especially when the pressure is on.  What do my recent words reveal about the condition and direction of my heart?  Am I using my speech to dose peace or to douse it with sparks of strife?

No Favoritism Allowed

April 29, 2026

James 2:1-7

James confronts a temptation that still creeps into every generation of believers—the pull to treat people differently based on what we see on the surface. In this section of James, we’re reminded that favoritism doesn’t just harm others; it invites God’s correction and blinds us to the work of the Holy Spirit. Tonight we’ll explore how to practice righteous judgment, honor the poor, and live a life truly “rich in faith.”  Where have I allowed outward appearance or personality to shape my judgment instead of the Holy Spirit’s leading?  How can I intentionally honor those whom the world overlooks so that my life reflects God’s heart rather than cultural preferences?

Test of a Transformed Tongue

April 22, 2026

James 1:19-21, 26-27

Now we step into one of the most challenging and revealing passages in the book of James — a call to examine the condition of our hearts by examining the words that come out of our mouths. James reminds us that “human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires” and that true, God‑honoring faith is seen in a life marked by purity, mercy, and compassion. As we gather, we’ll look honestly at what our speech reveals, what our hearts treasure, and how the Holy Spirit shapes us into people who sow peace rather than stir conflict.  What does my everyday speech — at home, at work, and when no one is watching — reveal about the condition of my heart?  Where is the Holy Spirit inviting me to replace anger, criticism, or harshness with mercy, restraint, and Christlike compassion?

Hearers to Doers

April 15, 2026

James 1:19-25

Today, we’re reminded that spiritual maturity isn’t measured by how much Scripture we hear—but by how much we obey. God calls us to be “quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry,” and to look into His Word like a mirror that reveals who we truly are. We’ll explore what it means to move from hearing to doing, allowing God’s Word to shape our character, our choices, and our daily witness.  Where is God calling me to move from simply hearing His Word to doing it in a tangible way this week? What attitudes, habits, or reactions do I need to “put off” so that the Word planted in me can grow and bear fruit?

The Way of Life

April 8, 2026

James 1:13-18

Temptation is real, but James reminds us that its source isn’t God—it begins in our own desires and grows when left unchecked. Yet in the middle of that battle, we’re pointed back to a Father who never changes and who gives every good and perfect gift. This week, we’ll explore how to recognize deception, walk in the Spirit, and live as people born through the Word of Truth.  Where am I allowing my desires to pull me away from what God wants for my life?  How does my daily testimony reflect that I’ve received God’s gift and been “born through the Word of Truth”?

Promise for the Faithful

April 1, 2026

James 1:9-12

In this message, we’re reminded that God measures value differently than the world does. Humble circumstances can be a place of honor, earthly achievements fade like flowers, and those who persevere through trials receive the crown of life the Lord has promised. It’s a call to examine what we treasure—and how faithfully we endure.  Where am I investing my time and energy in ways that hold eternal value rather than fading like “the little flower in the field”?  How is God shaping my faithfulness as I persevere through the trials in front of me?

Faith that Stands Firm

March 25, 2026

James 1:1-8

Trials come in all shapes and sizes, but God uses every one of them to strengthen our faith. James reminds us that testing isn’t meant to break us—it’s meant to grow us into people who are “mature and complete, not lacking anything.” As you walk through your own challenges, God invites you to trust Him deeply, seek His wisdom and stand firm without wavering.   Where is God using current trials to grow perseverance in me rather than frustration or fear?  What would it look like this week to seek God’s wisdom with a believing, undivided heart?

Introduction

March 18, 2026

The book of James calls believers to a faith that is lived, not merely learned—a faith shaped by obedience, transformed desires and reliance on the Holy Spirit. As James exposes hypocrisy and invites us into holy, practical discipleship, we’re reminded that Christianity is more than words and class attendance and that God desires to work through us as much as He works in us. The most influential impact that we can have on others is to demonstrate how well God has prepared our lives.  Where do I sense God inviting me to move from hearing to doing—allowing His truth to shape my daily choices?  In what ways might the Lord want to use my life to bless others and strengthen my church family?

Equipping the Saints

March 11, 2026

2 Timothy 3:16-17

God has given us His Word not just to inform us, but to transform us. In these two verses, we explore what it truly means to be equipped—not halfway, not casually, but thoroughly—by Scripture so we can live out the good works God has already prepared for us. When we study and apply His Word, the Holy Spirit shapes our character, strengthens our faith and empowers us to walk in His purpose.  Where might I be limiting the impact of God’s Word in my life by only hearing it rather than receiving and applying it?   What “good works” has God already placed in front of me and how faithfully am I walking in them?
